Everyone has heard of liposuction. It has been around for decades. Many people associate liposuction with belly fat or arm fat, or people wanting to get rid of the extra flab. Many people also assume it is an expensive procedure that is only for the well-off.
There are a variety of ways to get liposuction today. Whether you choose laser liposuction, in-office liposuction, or a non-invasive method like CoolSculpting, the idea is the removal or shrinking of fat cells.
At Metro Vein Clinic, we specialize in in-office liposuction. We have years of experience providing the best possible care to patients all over the Twin Cities. If you are interested in liposuction, give our office a call today.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure that is considered optional and cosmetic. The surgery can be done in a doctor’s office or a surgical hospital, depending on what style of liposuction you choose. The goal of liposuction is to remove excess body fat that is difficult or impossible to take care of with diet and exercise alone.
A plastic surgeon or a dermatologic surgeon will perform the procedure. Typically, a surgeon will perform liposuction on the stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks, bar, arms, face, or neck. The goal is to enhance the shape and flatten the area. Many times, liposuction is combined with another plastic surgery, such as a facelift, tummy tuck, or breast reduction.
To be a good candidate for liposuction, most doctors will require you to be within 30% of your ideal weight. You will want to have firm skin with some elasticity, and you should not be a smoker. Furthermore, doctors do not recommend the procedure for anyone with heart disease, circulation issues, diabetes, or a compromised immune system.
Liposuction is not a cure-all, however. You will not walk out of the surgery center or doctor’s office ten sizes smaller with no fat and free of cellulite. However, it does drastically help with the last bit that diet and exercise struggle to fix.
What to Expect?
Throughout the process, you can expect many things. You will meet with your doctor several times preparing for and leading up to the procedure. Ensure your doctor has all essential information including allergies and medications, as well as your goals.
You will want to ensure that whichever doctor performs your surgery is licensed, and the facility is accredited. Check out their reviews and standards.
During the procedure, you will either get general or local anesthesia, depending on the doctor and type of liposuction. You most likely will go home the day of the procedure, but you will want someone to drive you home.
After surgery, you will most likely wear compression garments for a couple of months. You will also probably take antibiotics to prevent any infection.
The main risks associated with liposuction are minor. Because it is a surgery, there is a slight chance of more severe risks. Typical side effects, if any are noticed, are bleeding, infections, uneven fat removal, numbness at location site, or damage to nerves. However, there can be complications from anesthesia, shock from surgery, fat embolism, or other side effects.
Because the doctor is removing fat cells, the results are permanent. However, this does not mean you can’t gain weight back. If you fail to follow a healthy diet and maintain an active lifestyle, you can gain weight back in new fat cells in other areas of the body.
What is the Cost of Liposuction?
Liposuction cost varies drastically depending on what type of liposuction is performed, who performs it, where the surgery happens, and how many areas of the body you choose to treat. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons found the average cost for liposuction to be $3,374.
However, this is by no means the exact amount you will pay. The cost should include anesthesia fees, hospital fees, medical tests, surgical garments, medications, and the surgeon’s fees.
Remember, you get what you pay for with liposuction. If you find a doctor that costs more than another in the same area, you are probably paying for his or her experience. In the end, your comfort level with your chosen doctor is as important as the total liposuction cost.
Excellent Specialty Physicians at Metro Vein Clinic
At Metro Vein Clinic, we specialize in in-office liposuction. Our procedures are based on the principle taught by Dr. Klein. In the 1980s, Dr. Klein pioneered the in-office liposuction technique and has been teaching it since then. Dr. Klein personally trained Dr. Afzal at Metro Vein Clinic. Dr. Burris, who is a world class dermatologic surgeon that taught at the Mayo Clinic, trained Dr. Afzal, as well.
The Benefits of Being a Metro Vein Patient
The benefits of choosing Metro Vein Clinic to perform your liposuction are that we use local anesthesia right in our office. Many surgical centers use general anesthesia, which leads to longer recovery time.
Our patients experience fast recovery. Many of them return to work the next day. The results are permanent because we remove fat cells during the surgery. Finally, in-office liposuction is safer than laser liposuction.
Our patients pay on average between $2,600 and $4,000 on the liposuction cost for an abdomen and waist. We will not surprise you with hidden fees. You will meet your doctor and nurse on the first visit, and they will walk you through every step. Our patients are very satisfied after choosing Metro Vein Clinic; our reviews speak for themselves.
During in-office liposuction, we use a small cannula to remove fat deposits from underneath the skin. Our cannulas are smaller than laser liposuction, Smart liposuction, Vaser liposuction, and Tickle liposuction. With smaller cannulas, you will notice less discomfort, little or no scarring, a quick recovery, and smooth results.
